I was looking for a new hobby. I really wanted something that would get me moving. Yet, I also wanted to feel more social than, say sweating side by side on stationary bikes with others in a class at the gym.

That’s when I had the idea to bring my boo along to take up tango dancing. I am not the most coordinated but am a fairly competitive person. For me, it is about actually learning to accept making mistakes when learning something that I am prone to be kind of bad at doing.

My husband, on the other hand, is the one who picks up quickly on a new melody. He is able to remember dance steps and new exercise moves quickly and accurately. I, on the other hand, do not feel as confident nor happy when taking on such tasks.

Though, even with all of this wondering whether I can do it or not, it turns out dancing the tango is just plain fun. We recently had a new fireplace installed by a fireplace dealer locally, and even the installer chimed in when we were talking about the tango lesson from the night before. So I suppose that even though my dreams of competitive dancing will never see the light of day, it is perfectly ok with me. Instead, I enjoy being with my husband and taking to the dance floor to relax.
